Why It’s Hard to Find the Right Shop

Wooden boat restoration requires time, space, and specialized skills—and in Muskoka there are a lot of classic boats needing attention. In many cases, the number of boats waiting for restoration far outweighs the number of shops equipped to take them on. Depending on the repairs required, some shops simply won’t accept older wooden boats.

Including My Own Classic Boat

As the owner of a 1964 Greavette Sunflash, I understand the upkeep these boats require—and the importance of doing the work properly to preserve both value and character.

At Cook Craft, I have years of experience restoring older boats and canoes. My background includes:

  • Restoring wooden canoes dating back to the late 1890s
  • Classic wooden sailboat restorations, including an Enterprise and an International 14
  • Multiple lapstrake and cedar strip rowboats and motorboats
  • Ongoing restoration and maintenance work on my Greavette
  • Current projects including a 1930s Canadian Craft cedar strip runabout
  • Building a larger cedar strip runabout on spec (not yet sold)
